How this tool changes learning in a way that isn't possible without technology
Students will start a new unit on central tendencies. In this lesson students will be introduced or reintroduced to central tendencies vocabulary words and be able to classify the words. Students will work in groups to define, create examples and non-examples of each of the words. Groups will be given a list of words compiled by the teacher.

Students would not be able to collaborate with fellow class members on this introduction lesson without the use of technology; they would only be able to meet face-to-face to complete the project. With technology they can be anywhere and still work on the project together.
The students will be using a variety of predetermined websites to access a variety of data to work with to create graphs with a partner. Students, with a partner will interpret the data and make notes about what the data says. Students will need to review the vocabulary from lesson 1 to fully understand all the parts of the charts to be able to interpret the data.* Each group will need to review at least 5 graphs and make notes about what the graphs are showing and if there is any bias in the graphs.
Once the groups are done reviewing the 5 graphs, they will get will another group and share what they have learned about graphs and how graphs are used.
Technology is essential in this lesson. Teachers could create different graphs to show how data can use presented in different ways, but by it would not be in real time or without real bias it would be hard to show how creatures of graphs can manipulate the data. By using the Internet, the data is real time and students can see easy it is to create a graph using data to show what you want and not just to show what you want it to show.
The class will create a graph together.
The question: How much time should the average 5th grader spend on homework to make good grades? – Students in the class with complete the question along with students in the other 5th grade classes (the teacher will already have this data).
The class will work together to compile the data to be able to create the chart (add class data to data from the other 5th grade classes.)
The teacher will provide a mini lesson on finding the range, mean, median, and mode of the data.
Students will be placed in groups and the groups will find the range, mean, median, and mode of the data.
The class would be able to complete this assignment without technology but it would be very hard for the teacher to create an accurate chart at the time of the lesson (not already made). Technology enables the class to create the chart in real time. Labels, data points, a key, scales, and intervals can be created during the lesson. This enables to student to help create the graph with the data they have and know all what needs to be included.
In this lesson, the objective is for students to create a way to present their information that they have generated using real world situations.
Students will pick a topic and generate survey questions to ask fellow students and school staff.
Once they have their data, they will create a chart to show their data. They will need to pick an appropriate way to represent their data.
Then they will create a presentation that they will show the class using their data.
They can use any presentation tool (teacher will have a list to assist students if they are not sure of different types).
Students will create a very short presentation. Students will figure the mean, median, range,and mode for their data.

Students have been creating presentations for a long time. By using technology along with presentations, students are using skills that they will need for future schooling and in the work force. Students can use creativity with technology to show a little piece of who they are that will come through on the presentations. Without technology and all the Web 2.0 tools this would not be possible, all the presentations would be very similar.
